It's not often you go to a wedding and the entire wedding party do a synchronised dance to a Michael Jackson song! Sam and David's families sure know how to celebrate. I met Sam and David for their pre-wedding shoot on Southbank back in July. You can see the images here. I started the day capturing the preparations at Sam's parents home, I love documenting the preparations and recording the excitement and anticipation before the ceremony. The sun was shining and the mood was relaxed considering the number of people getting ready and then it was off to St John Fisher Church in … [Read more...]

Annie & Paul get married at Nonsuch Mansion on 12th May 2012 so yesterday I met them there for their pre-wedding session. More images will follow taken in the beautiful grounds of the mansion but here's one of my favourites, got to love a bit of peeling paint with a good helping of rust! … [Read more...]

The church that Stacey and Simon attend is just a stones throw from my house and is definitely the most local wedding I've ever done. I loved the fact that the day was planned in such a way that all the elements that were most important to them were given priority. Their actual marriage ceremony took place at the start of the service and was followed by some beautiful readings and singing. The church they attend plays a big part in both their lives and they chose to have a drinks and cakes reception after the service in the church followed by speeches so that all the congregation … [Read more...]

Hughenden Park in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire has the most beautiful display of Daffodils. What better place to go for a relaxed family portrait session. Enjoy! … [Read more...]

So it feels like spring has well and truly arrived and the daffodils are out. This is such an amazing time of year for location portrait photography and these daffodils were such a beautiful bright background. Barney definitely enjoyed himself. No daffodils were hurt in the creation of these photographs..... well maybe one or two! More from the rest of the session to follow soon. … [Read more...]

I've been a bit quiet recently and have to admit that I'm a little bit behind with my 'Project 52'! I'm still doing it but I've come to a few conclusions over the last couple of weeks: It takes a lot of practice and time to get images rather than 'blurs' or 'not a lot' out of a pinhole camera. A bit more research before starting might have helped! I might have been expecting a bit much trying to use a different camera each week for a whole year (If I didn't actually work then it might be possible but as that's not the case it's best not to beat myself up for not doing it but rather … [Read more...]

The first week of my project resulted in just four images (the rest were barely visible on the negative) all of which were ridiculously blurred! I'm taking a glass half full attitude. I did actually record an image and that's better than not recording anything at all. These were all taken using the Hole-one EX cardboard kit pin hole. I had to tape the back on once the film was loaded as it kept falling off but it would seem that quite a bit of light still managed to get into the camera as there are dark stripes across the majority of the negatives. I'm guessing that there are quite a … [Read more...]

....and a great gift for Valentines day! OK, so it's not long until Valentines day so I thought I'd offer all you lovely people a great idea for a gift. There's nothing wrong with a bunch of flowers or a box of choccies to show the one you love how much you care, but how about something a bit different? How about a photo shoot? All too often I hear people say 'we have no photos of the two of us together!' so why not take this opportunity to have some beautiful photos taken that you will both treasure now and in the future. Your shoot can be held at a location of your choice … [Read more...]

Humaira & George were married in Greece, where they live but returned to the UK for a Reception at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire so that they could celebrate their marriage with all of Humaira's friends and family. I was booked by Humaira's brother and didn't meet Humaira until the day before the reception. Although it is unusual for me not to meet the couples I work with before the day, it did not effect how I approached photographing their day. My documentary style was ideal for capturing their celebrations. Hatfield House is a beautiful location on any day but when we arrived … [Read more...]

Pinhole cameras have always fascinated me. I think this is quite simply because all you need is a light tight box with a hole in it and a piece of light sensitive material and 'voila' you can produce an image. No need for expensive pieces of kit or even a lens. I'm not saying that you don't have to be in possession of the right equipment (there is a list of what I plan to use at the bottom of this page) but most things I've picked up fairly cheaply or are items I've recycled or got from Free Cycle. If you own a pinhole camera or have made your own then please get in touch, I'd love … [Read more...]

So what is Project 52? I've wanted to embark on a project of some sort for a while but was never quite sure what to do. So, I thought about it a bit, and then a little bit more and then some other photographer friends started to talk about doing '365 projects' (a photo a day for a year) and then '52 projects' (a photo a week for a year) as this is more manageable, because to be honest a photo a day is pretty impressive, I have a lot of respect for anyone that has completed one. So I'd decided to do a 52 Project but I still didn't have a theme. No matter what idea I came up with I … [Read more...]
‘Project 52′ is going to be a BIG experiment. I will try and use as many of the cameras that I own as possible (and some I’ll borrow), I’ll experiment with different films (colour and black and white) and try and recreate effects I have seen in photographs by others using a range of different techniques. The whole while concentrating on capturing portraits. To read more of these posts please click on the links below.
