Hi, I’m Clare

I can’t claim that I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was a small child, I was more into poster paints and ‘fuzzy felt’ back then.  But I’ve always enjoyed ‘creating’ things.  There’s a simple satisfaction in making something tangible, a useful item, that is created by your hands, from scratch.  So on days when I’m not out and about taking photos, my happy place is on the couch with a good old movie (I mean Star Wars, Legend or Fried Green Tomatoes  ) knitting, wrapped in my quilt.

Being in front of the camera…

I think it’s fairly common for photographers to prefer to be behind the camera rather than in front of it. However, the process of being photographed has taught me A LOT!!! If you’re photographed by the right person in the right way you will love the results. I love the shots I’ve posted here, because they show me being me.  No fake smiles, I look happy, relaxed, how I hope others see me.  I’ve learned to appreciate that I am what I am, wrinkles (or rather, laughter lines) and all. And most importantly being photographed has taught me to be a better photographer. Understanding how the person in front of your camera feels is integral to capturing an image that lets their personality shine through.

On photography…

Photography can make you look at the world differently. Observing the world through a view finder allows you to choose what to include and what to omit, concentrating on the light, composition, pattern and colour. In a busy, hectic world photography allows me to step back, consider, play and notice all that is beautiful. For this reason alone I love it! My first foray into photography was photographing flowers, this is still a passion and I love to visit gardens around the country.  You can see plenty of my Macro plant photography over on the blog.
